$2 Million Dram Shop Settlement

“Dram Shop” is the legal term for the responsibility of a bar owner not to overserve a patron who is legally intoxicated.

When a bar serves a drunk person, and the drunk hurts someone in the community, Indiana law allows for a direct recovery against the bar. Dram shop cases are difficult and complex, usually involving disputed proof and toxicological science.

Drunk driving: still one of the deadliest risks of death in the United States.

We recently represented a motorcyclist who was hit by a drunk leaving a bar. The bar had over served the patron, and he almost immediately ran a stop sign and seriously injured the innocent motorcyclist. The settlement represented the maximum policy limits of the bar.

This was a case where we asked to lend a hand by another respected law firm. We prepared a well polished settlement video and a custom web page to present the case. Combined with the excellent investigation and work up with our co-counsel, the case resolved for a fair amount. Our client’s medical bills - both past and future - are taken care of, and they have financial security heading into retirement.
