Cameron Fathauer

Attorney

Cameron M. Fathauer is a Kentuckiana trial lawyer. His fields of legal specialty include personal injury, traumatic brain injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, wills, trusts, and other estate-related work. He is well-versed in legal doctrine, having written and published articles for the American Bar Association. He received his J.D. from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, IN, where he was recognized as a Forrest E. Jump scholar.

Background

Cameron grew up in Columbus, Indiana. After graduating from Columbus North High School, he went to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he graduated with a B.A. in Humanities and Business Administration, summa cum laude. He participated in the inaugural honors collegium for two years, won awards on the school’s Speech and Debate team, and edited various academic publications.

Cameron has a unique calling to the legal profession. On September 18, 2015, he was hit by a car as a pedestrian and lost a third of his skull. After being life-lined to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, he was diagnosed with a severe diffuse axonal brain injury down to his brainstem. This traumatic brain injury (TBI) required him to relearn just about everything, including how to walk, talk, and perform basic arithmetic all over again. He compares the experience to an Etch-e-Sketch.

A month before the accident Cameron proposed to his wife, Chelsea. She was living out the marriage vows before it even started, and they were married six months later. In many ways, Cameron credits Chelsea to his recovery.

Before the accident, Cameron felt a call to ministry. He has always been captured by a desire to lead, educate, and support those around him. The accident did not change this desire but redirected it away from the pulpit and closer to the people. In 2016, Cameron met Matthew Schad and the Schad Law team. They worked his TBI case quickly, efficiently, and effectively. It was here when he found his own calling to the legal profession.

Eight months after waking up from the coma, Cameron started studying for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The doctors emphasized repeatedly – “Cameron, the hardest things for you now will be higher level thinking and executive function” – which only pushed him harder to study for the test. He thought to himself, “If I could do this, I could do anything else.”

Cameron achieved a high enough score on the LSAT to get into one of the nation’s top law schools. He founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Voice of TBI to help people with traumatic brain injuries. He went on to have four children during law school. He achieved the highest score on the bar exam to be licensed in all UBE jurisdictions.

As a husband, father, Christian, attorney, and community leader, Cameron Fathauer is thankful to be where he is and looks forward to seeing where others can go.
