Matthew J. Schad

Matt Schad

Attorney

Matt Schad is a trial lawyer.

Since 1998 he has been a partner in the southern Indiana firm of Schad and Schad, PC.  Matt has received an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell (an AV rating is the highest possible for competency and ethics, held by less than 5% of all attorneys).  His concentration in personal injury includes wrongful death, products liability, construction site accidents, highway design, motor vehicle collisions, premises liability, toxic torts, and medical malpractice.

Matt grew up in Floyd County, Indiana. After graduating from Floyd Central High School he majored in Ancient Greek & Latin at Indiana University, where he earned high honors. He went on to attend the Florida State College of Law and graduated cum laude in 1994. During law school Matt worked for the Florida Bar Association, won the 'best oralist' award on the Moot Court team, and interned in Berlin, Germany for the United States Army.

After law school Matt joined the United States Army and served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps overseas in the Republic of Panama. After promotion to captain he became the chief Army military prosecutor for the Southern Command. As lead trial counsel he tried numerous courts martial for crimes in Panama, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and other Central American countries.

At the conclusion of his military career Matt returned home and joined the practice founded by his father Larry. Matt enjoys jury trials and, for the last several years, has limited his practice to injury and death cases. In 2005 he was recognized as the Indiana Young Trial Lawyer of the Year. He is a past president of the Floyd County Bar Association and a current member of the Board of Governors of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. His professional interests include using computer technology in the courtroom, a topic he has lectured on across the country, storytelling, and visual creativity.

Matt has a track record of courtroom victories that includes multiple seven figure verdicts and 50+ jury trials.  Over the years he has handled increasingly large and complex cases.

In his free time he pursues a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing.  In recent years he has taken up flyfishing, travelling and camping the rivers of the Canadian Rockies, the Smokey Mountains, and throughout Colorado.  He was a certified white water rafting guide in Utah.
